Going Deeper with Jackson ”JP” Rose!

Hi, I'm Jackson. Some people call me JP. I'm 43 years old and originally from upstate NY. I was assigned "female" at birth but I knew by the age of 2 that I was "in the wrong body." I insisted that I was a boy- at home and at school. I was put through conversion therapy at school but they never called it that. I was told it was a club for a select group of kids. I was forced to wear feminine clothes growing up as well as keep my hair long. At one point, I even had to make a promise to "only date men" in order to live at home.

I grew up not attending a church. In 2006, when I was 27, I moved into my own apartment and I started attending a non-denominational church. I was immediately treated differently because I was a "girl" that dressed like a guy. I had short hair and always wore khakis and polo shirts to church. After moving to North Carolina in 2012, I felt more comfortable being myself. The first church I attended was also very restrictive so in 2014, I found an inclusive church. I know God had a hand in putting me here- in NC and in this church. In 2020, I transitioned to male and I don't regret it at all. My church, the pastors and the congregation, have loved and accepted me unconditionally.

I'm hoping that telling my story will bring more awareness of what it's like to be transgender and that not only does God not make mistakes, but that He put me on this Earth, just as I am, to help people understand that being LGBTQ+ is not a choice. We were born this way!
