Meet Bishop Karen Oliveto!

Karen Oliveto is a bishop in The United Methodist Church. Born on Good Friday and raised in Babylon (in New York state), she has served in parish and campus ministry settings, was Associate Dean at Pacific School of Religion, and has been an adjunct professor at several seminaries. She served as the lead pastor of the 12,000-member Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco.

She is the author of: Holy Conversations: Talking About Homosexuality, Those Strangely Warmed Hearts: Coming Out Into God’s Call, and Together at the Table: Diversity Without Division in The United Methodist Church. She is the first openly LGBTQ bishop in the UMC. She is married to Robin Ridenour, a deaconess and retired nurse anesthetist. They met when they both were staff for a Jr. High Church Camp.
