Meet Kathy Kirkpatrick!
Kathy Kirkpatrick grew up in the church and served in many capacities; choir director, lay preaching, bible study leader, and then, she lost her emotional connection to God. What stayed was how Christian music still heals her soul when she is in despair. To hear Kathy's Coming Out/ Faith Journey story on a previous GAY with GOD! episode, search for Kathy Kirkpatrick July 12, 2021 on the show page.
Today, Kathy talks to us about advocating for our basic LGBTQIA+ rights by getting involved with our local government, volunteering with our Democratic party, and VOTING consciously in all elections.
Our rights are being seriously challenged and disregarded by the Florida Bill that became Law; Can't Say GAY. Kathy cautions us that this is a grave time for our community and our future.
Kathy is adamant that, "We can make it better, and we need to make it better." Kathy believes that the recent legislative efforts in Florida and other states can erase all rights for our LGBTQIA+ community and other minority groups if we stand by and do nothing.
Kathy is a retired middle school principal, and the current chair of the Democratic Party of Guildford County. She and her wife have raised two delightful kids and a menagerie of dogs and cats. She now spends her days gardening, refinishing furniture, and volunteering.
